In client centered sessions, the client speaks and becomes aware of the solution through his/her own responses. The hypnotherapist is a guide, but the client determines his/her own solutions. When a session is not client-centered, a hypnotist may use the same suggestions for a number of clients without tailoring them to a specific client.
People usually expect to "go" somewhere. Hypnosis is a state between wake and sleep. You don't "go" anywhere. Many of the exercises we do involve accessing your own feelings or using your imagination. As long as you associate with the feelings or the story in your imagination, there is not always a need to go too deep into trance; however, when we are accessing information that your conscious mind is not aware of, we must go deeper into trance to access the subconscious mind's information. When you are in a deep trance, you may feel like you're drifting or floating, you may feel very heavy or very light, or you may feel tingly or numb. Every person experiences trance a little differently.
While depth of trance can be very important for hypnosis, at Think Positive, we combine NLP techniques with hypnosis techniques. NLP is a form of awake hypnosis which is extremely effective and requires no trance at all.
Most of our sessions are interactive. The hypnotherapist will provide an instruction such as, “At the count of three, you’ll be at the root cause of your desire to wash your hands frequently. 1-2-3. What are you aware of?” The client then provides all the details and the session continues from there. At the end of the session, the hypnotherapist will provide a direct suggestion that the client will remember the details of the session. In most cases, a CD of the session is provided to the client as well.
Yes, everyone with normal brain function who can concentrate and relax can be hypnotized if he is willing. For best results, it is advisable to avoid caffeine for several hours before the session.
Each one of us is in a state of hypnosis several times every day. Some common examples are the times when we are waking up or going to sleep and we are neither completely asleep nor completely awake. We are also in a state of hypnosis when we are daydreaming, reading, watching a movie or even driving a car.
While some people would prefer to remain in the wonderfully relaxed state for a longer period of time, everyone does come out of hypnosis. People only get “stuck” in movies.
At Think Positive we follow a strict code of ethics which guarantees that we will only make suggestions that are directly related to the reason for your visit. That being said… no one can make you do anything that is not in your personal makeup. Not even through hypnosis! If a hypnotist asked you to run into the street naked and this was not something that you would ever consider doing, you would not do it.
No. You may see a person forget a number or a letter of the alphabet during stage hypnosis, but even if the hypnotist did not instruct the subject to remember the forgotten item, he would remember within a few hours. While a person’s mind or memories can not be erased, suggestions can be made to help a person realize that a childhood occurrence was not his fault, that certain foods are better than others or that he is able to speak in front of large groups of people even though he has been afraid for many years. The suggestions must be logical, rational and within the person’s moral beliefs to take effect.
